Scovid

Scovid is a lightweight Android application developed to address the lack of streamlined mobile tools for accessing COVID-19 statistics without the clutter of unnecessary bloatware. The app was designed to deliver fast, responsive updates by pulling live data from opendata.nhs.scot, offering users timely information based on their current location. By matching the device’s geolocation with regional health data, Scovid ensures that users receive relevant statistics tied to their local NHS Board. NHSScotland is divided into 14 regional boards, such as Greater Glasgow and Clyde, which serve as the basis for the app’s data segmentation.

Built using Android Studio with Java and Axios for data handling, Scovid remains in its prototype stage but demonstrates a strong foundation in both performance and practicality. The application’s architecture prioritises speed and simplicity, making it accessible to a wide range of users. Its location-aware functionality not only enhances accuracy but also supports public health awareness at a local level. As development continues, Scovid aims to evolve into a trusted mobile companion for real-time COVID-19 insights across Scotland.
